On National Brother’s Day, Johnny and Tommy Covelli returned to North Shore University Hospital to express gratitude to the surgeons who performed a life-altering kidney transplant. Johnny, born with congenital hydronephrosis, faced limited treatment options for the urinary tract blockage. When his younger brother, Tommy, insisted on being the donor, tests revealed an extraordinary genetic match with identical HLA genes, a rarity among non-twin siblings. Dr. Eliott Grodstein, the transplant surgeon, marveled at the unique bond, describing the Covelli brothers as a perfect match. Their story serves as a poignant tribute to brotherhood, with Tommy's selfless act of donating his kidney proving to be a life-changing event for Johnny.

The Pat Covelli Foundation is proud to announce its collaboration with The Hurricanes Team Store and the Bryan Pata Foundation for the 23rd Annual Hurricane Holiday Shopping Spree for Kids, presented by Milam’s Markets. .

In an effort to spread joy and create lasting memories, the initiative will provide forty-five deserving children from the Police Athletic League, The Boys & Girls Club, and the Bryan Pata Foundation with a $95 shopping spree each. This gesture not only celebrates the holiday spirit but also pays tribute to the legacy of Bryan Pata, a former University of Miami football player.
